The car used to be the worst part of any trip with my toddler. Four cheap buys fixed it. These are the toddler road trip essentials that turned a rolling meltdown into something close to manageable, and together they run under $60. None of it is fancy. All of it earns its spot in my trunk.
A backseat organizer that hangs off the headrest (~$25). Snacks and a couple toys within her reach, so I’m not driving with one arm fishing around behind me at 65. Buy this one first.
A spill-proof snack cup (~$8). The lid lets her hand in but not the contents out when she flips it, which she will, immediately, to test you. Cheap, and it ends the floor-snack situation.
Window sun shades (~$13). Afternoon sun straight in a toddler’s face is a guaranteed scream. These cling on, no suction cups falling off every ten minutes.
A tablet headrest mount (~$15). I hold the screen-time line at home. In hour three of a drive, alone, I have made my peace. It clips on, she watches her show, and I get to listen to something that isn’t crying.
Add a pack of wipes stashed in every door pocket and you’re set.
